Football BC is proud to announce its participation in a new formal agreement between the Canadian Football League (CFL) and all 10 provincial football organizations. Under this partnership, Football BC will recognize the CFL as our Officials Development Partner, working in close collaboration with the BC Lions.
Through this agreement, the CFL will work alongside Provincial Sport Organizations (PSOs) to deliver and enhance the Provincial Club Flag Championships. By utilizing CFL venues and infrastructure, the partnership aims to elevate the athlete experience and strengthen the connection between grassroots flag football and the professional game.
The CFL will also play a key role in advancing elite flag football across Canada. This includes supporting provincial athlete identification, training, and selection programs in the U14, U16, U18, and adult categories for both men and women. In addition to competition-focused initiatives, the league and its member clubs will collaborate with PSOs to boost promotion, increase public awareness, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the sport through shared sponsorship and event development.
Football BC President Kevin Parks emphasized the importance of the agreement:“This partnership represents a significant step forward for the development of flag football in British Columbia and across Canada. It builds on our strong relationship with the BC Lions, who continue to support amateur football throughout the province. We would like to thank the CFL and the BC Lions for their ongoing commitment to growing the sport.”
Football BC Executive Director Keith Ryan highlighted the impact on performance pathways:“This agreement ensures that BC athletes have a clear, structured pathway to compete at the highest levels of flag football, including future opportunities for selection to Team Canada.”
